Ownership and funding

Readers are entitled to know who stands behind the journalism they read and how it is paid for. This page sets that out, and states the firm line we draw between funding and editorial decisions.

Ownership

Funding

PQR News is funded by [Funding sources]. We set out our sources of revenue here because who pays for a publication is part of understanding it. Where a single source accounts for a significant share of our funding, we will name it.

Funding never influences coverage

Our commitment is unambiguous: no funder, advertiser, sponsor or owner has any influence over our editorial decisions. What we choose to cover, what we conclude and what we publish are determined by editorial judgement alone. We report on the people and organisations connected to our funding by exactly the same standards we apply to everyone else, and we disclose any such connection where it is relevant to a story. If a funder ever sought to shape our coverage, we would decline, and we would rather lose the funding than the independence.

Advertising and sponsored content

If we carry advertising or sponsored content, it is kept strictly separate from editorial and is clearly labelled so that no reader could mistake it for our journalism. Sponsored material is identified as such, visually and in words; it is never dressed up as reporting or analysis; and buying advertising or sponsorship never buys influence over — or protection from — our coverage. Any commercial arrangement that is relevant to something we report will be disclosed to readers.
