Jaguar F-Pace: How is it different from its competitors?

It takes very less to be an SUV these days, but a lot to make it differ from the crowd. The Jaguar F-Pace is a good example of the latter. Believe me or not, this prodigious Jaguar went ahead and impressed journalists across the world, which, therefore, led it to grab the 2017 World Car of the Year title.

In India, the F-Pace was first launched in 2016, in its current generation. However, what really didn’t help the Jaguar here was its price. First and foremost, it was bought to India as a CBU unit. Secondly, it was powered by a 3.0-litre V6, which made the F-Pace pricier than many of its rivals. And, even if you have a slight understanding of how the Indian automotive market works, you would know that value-for-money is the name of the game here.

As a result, Jaguar had to discontinue the V6 engine, which resulted in the company setting up a lethargic 2.0-litre diesel under its hood. Moreover, the company started local assembly of the F-Pace right here in India. Now while that worked significantly in the favour of the Jaguar you see above in helping its sales numbers, it wasn’t as punchy to drive, which only meant the journalists were no longer happy. Now only, last year, Jaguar sent us the petrol-powered F-Pace for a quick review. The petrol-powered SUV, then, ensures to follow the footsteps of the punchier diesel. Let’s have a look.

Specifications

The Jaguar F-Pace is, without a doubt, one of the best-lookers in the Indian market. First launched in 2016, it has not gone through any major overhauls as of yet. As for its dimensions, the F-Pace measures 4731mm in length, 1,936mm in width, and 1,651mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,874mm and the base-spec variant of this Jag tips the scale at 1,830kg. It has a boot space capacity of 508-litres and a fuel tank capacity of 60-litres, regardless of the variant.

While the more powerful versions of the F-Pace are now a part of the history, the current-spec model is powered with two engines. First of the lot is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel, which makes 177bhp and 430Nm of torque. It comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Next is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, which is rated to produce 247bhp and 365Nm of torque. Just like the diesel, it, too, comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Moreover, both the engines are compliant with BS-IV emission standards, with no official word on BS-VI approval as of early-2020.

Mileage

While the erstwhile punchy engines of the F-Pace were great in performance, they weren’t as frugal as the smaller capacity engines of now. For instance, the diesel-powered F-Pace is rated to deliver 16.38km/l and the petrol is not too far behind either, at 14.38km/l.

Features

Like its overall specifications, the features and equipment list, too, didn’t see any change last year. Available in only Prestige trim, the F-Pace gets a lot of equipment for the money. The main highlight at the front is the adaptive LED headlamps with signature DRLs. The rear, too, gets LED taillamps. In profile, the 19-inch alloy wheels look great and work well with the flared arches.

On the inside, the main talking point is the 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system, which features both Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Moreover, it gets a 380W Meridian sound system. You also get 10-way electric front seats with driver memory, Grained leather seats, sliding panoramic roof, Configurable Ambient Interior Lighting, Soft grain leather sport steering wheel, Four-zone Climate Control,360° Parking Aid,Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, Driver Condition Monitor, Park Assist, and Lane Keep Assist.

Colours

The F-Pace, as of early-2020, comes in six shades, namely, Fuji White, Santorini Black, Caesium Blue, Firenze Red, Indus Silver, and Carpathian Grey.
